Words

ADALYN ROBERTS, Co-Director of Children’s Ministry

  • BIBLE VERSE

2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be  adequate, equipped for every good work.”

  • INTERPRETATION

The Bible is God’s words and they were given to us for us to do a good work.

  • BREAKTHROUGH

    My manual.

  • LIFE APPLICATION

God’s word is so real to me; it speaks right to me as if it were written just for my circumstances. I need to go to the word more, not just in time of crisis or weakness but in time of joy. Right now I am so tired that I just want to do nothing, let my brain think of nothing important but I think that it is these times that God just wants me to read the Bible, pray and just listen so that my strength is built in him.

  • ENTREATY

Lord Jesus, I pray that you will help me to just listen and hear your voice. Amen

Surf Trip A Solid 10!

26 Guys met in Carlsbad last weekend for surf, fellowship and the study of God’s Word together.  Despite the smaller surf on Saturday, they made the best of it by grabbing their longboards.  A couple guys attended as guests of Beachcities regulars and we hope they had a great time.  Please check out the Men’s Ministry “Activities” section for regular opportunities to surf with the guys locally here in HB.

October 27th Halloween Party

This Thursday night, October 27th, we are having our annual Edge Halloween Party. As a part of this year’s festivities we are having not one, but TWO contests for you to participate in: Our Costume Contest and our Pumpkin Carving Contest. To participate in the Pumpkin contest, you must bring your pumpkin already  carved, we will not be carving AT the Edge. We can’t wait to see what kind of crazy costumes you all come up with, the more creative, the better. Bring your sweet tooth because we will be eating candy galore and Jeremy  will be speaking. This is going to be a great night to bring your friends and show them what the Edge Family is all about. See you tomorrow night!

Good Will Extend

DAVE PETTWAY, Worship Leader

  • BIBLE VERSE

1 Timothy 6:1-2 1 Let all who are under a yoke as bondservants regard their own masters as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be reviled.2 Those who have believing masters must not be disrespectful on the ground that they are brothers; rather they must serve all the better since those who benefit by their good service are believers and beloved. Teach and urge these things.”

  • INTERPRETATION

To give honor where honor is due especially to those in authority over you and, principally, to authority figures who are Christians so that good witness of Christ and his word would be shown to all who are watching and listening
  • BREAKTHROUGH

My “aha” moment was that I must remember this particular teaching because I work for Believing bosses and I want to always see them as Christ sees them. They are as beloved by God as I am and worthy of honor.
  • LIFE APPLICATION

My job this week is to work at seeing my masters as yoke fellows in Christ as dearly loved by God and to be prayerful for them and to trust God to be my strength as I continue learning how to be respectful and to bear in mind the fact that these men and women are my brothers and sisters in Christ.
  • ENTREATY

God, Please help me in my ineptitude to focus on showing love and respect and honor first in my daily interactions with those in authority over me because I’m quite sure I’d want the same
good will to be extended to me by those that I’m in charge of. Amen

It’s Like Family

PETER WINSCOTT, Church Administrator

  • BIBLE VERSE

1 Timothy 5:1-2 “Never speak harshly to an older man, but appeal to him respectfully as you would to your own father. Talk to younger men as you would to your own brothers. 2 Treat older women as you would your mother, and treat younger women with all purity as you would your own sisters.”

  • INTERPRETATION

Here we have an example of how to treat others.  The main idea is that other people should be treated with the same respect and love that you would give to your own family.  Furthermore, if you are not giving love and respect to your own family, you will not be able to demonstrate this to others.

  • BREAKTHROUGH

I demonstrate my love and respect for God when I love and respect others.

  • LIFE APPLICATION

There are no conditions of love and respect given in these verses.  We are simply to give it.  We are to give respect to older men.  This means we don’t speak to them in a disrespectful manner.  With younger men, we are to treat them like our own brother, which means we guide them along with loving instruction and defend them in times of trouble.  Older women are to be treated with the same love that you would give to your own mom.  And finally, younger women are to be respected in the same way you would want your own sister respected.  This means that you don’t look at younger women as play-toys or objects of sexual desire.  You see their innocence and you desire to protect it as an older brother would protect his sister.

What about absentee dads, mean moms, bad brothers and snotty sisters?  How can we love others in this way when our own family didn’t warrant this respect and love?  Simple.  Ask yourself the question: did I warrant God’s love and grace?  No.  Loving others is not about whether they are lovable.  I do it because it is pleasing to my heavenly father and demonstrates love and respect to Him.

  • ENTREATY

Lord, help me to love and respect others well.  I pray that you would constantly remind me to treat them like family.  Thank you for giving me a mom and dad that warranted love and respect.  It makes it much easier for me to live this out.  Help those who didn’t have moms and dads that warranted love and respect.  May they look to You as their model of a Father-figure and You are most worthy of love and respect.  AMEN.
